DCS was responsible for the clinical implementation of a new BrainLAB Novalis and Novalis Body system. IMRS was implemented on the Novalis and IMRT on a Varian 21EX using the BrainLAB BrainScan software. The system includes the Novalis Body Realtime X-ray imaging localizer and ExacTrac2 for target tracking with implanted marker seeds. As of November 2003, 30 radiosurgery cases, 60 imrt cases, and 4 prostate cases with implanted tracking seeds have been treated. Tracking with BrainLAB Infrared skin markers has been used on 50% of all cases to date. Additional clinical physics support is being provided for calculation checks and machine calibration and staff recruitment.

After the delivery of all system components, DCS assisted the physics staff with commissioning and acceptance. DCS helped commission a Theraplan 3-D TPS and presented a poster at the AAPM meeting on Mayo’s behalf. Provided assistance with the recruitment of a nationally recognized Chief of Physics.

DCS designed and implemented a LAN for the Corvus TPS, IMPAC, a Siemens Somatom-Plus CT scanner, and the Siemens PRIMUS within this new radiotherapy facility. This was the first non-university facility in the U.S. to successfully deliver IMRT utilizing a Siemens accelerator with MLC. Implemented a full-body stereotacticradiosurgery program. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Provided clinical coverage for an average caseload of 70patients, working with 3 physicians, 2 dosimetrists, and 9 therapists. DCS provided training for special procedures including IMRT, HDR and PDR, I-125 stereotactic brain implants with hypothermia, and radiosurgery. 3rd site in the US to clinically implement IMRT (1995). QA documents
were developed for all special procedures to assist new staff during this transition. Assisted with the recruitment of a
Chief Physicist, and multiple therapists.
